Position wanted

At first glance, I’m going to say that Wednesday, Aug. 20, stunk.

I was laid off.

However, as far as I’m concerned, I’m parting on good terms. I have good feelings about my time at Hanson Inc., and would recommend the firm. (A bit ironically though, Hanson is seeking to hire solution architects, designers and programmers. If you want a contact name, let me know, or use the email or form on the site.)

But, it’s time to move forward.

I am looking for gainful employment, project work, freelance assignments — whatever can legally, ethically and morally generate income for my family while adding value to the company signin’ the check!

If you are looking for someone who offers experience in:

  • Newspaper journalism (4+ years and periodic freelance since that early part of my career)
  • Public relations, with emphasis in media relations, and experience in other marketing communications (12+ years)
  • Social media monitoring and outreach (3+ years)
  • Strategic planning and proposal development, mixed in with some project management, budgeting, etc. (8+ years)
  • A solid work ethic
  • And, a whole bunch of other good stuff…here’s my resume.

You can also see more about me (though, I still have to update that employment part).

So, if I can help you, I would appreciate it if you’d drop me a line.

Moving on to . . .

No, not Edelman! (Geesh, just about every blogger you read who posts about a new job post says he/she is joining Edelman. Not me, I’m moving on to some place better. ;)  )

Hanson logoI’ll make this short and sweet: Officially effective today, I’ve joined Hanson Inc. as a messaging strategist. Essentially, it’ll involve less traditional PR and media relations than I’ve been doing, and more social media/blogger type work; more diverse writing than what I’ve regularly done in the past; and more strategic input into clients’ direction, working with clients and/or their traditional agencies.

Hanson is like many of the firms who are involved in social media: low profile, but doing excellent work. The kind of excellent work that you don’t read about.

It’s a fantastic opportunity, and comes at the perfect time in my family’s life. (For background, see my more personal, parenting-focused blog.)

I’ll be eternally grateful for the opportunities I had during my 12+ years at LMG, and wish everyone there only the best.

Okay, now that I’ve stroked my ego by blogging about me, go on about your regular blog reading.

Bo Schembechler dead at 77

Okay, I’m not into reporting the news, but WXYZ in Detroit is reporting that legendary UM football coach Bo Schembechler died this morning during a taping of a “Big Ten Ticket” Show.

Not to dismiss the personal tragedy of Coach Schembechler’s death and his role in college football history, but what affect will this have on Saturday’s game?

I’d say it’ll give the UM players an incentive that OSU cannot match. Granted, after the first series or two of plays, emotion dies down and talent, skill, experience and luck take over. But still, something like “Win one for Bo!” is no typical rallying cry.

Milton Friedman, 94, dead

milton.jpgMilton Friedman, 94, died Thursday “of heart failure after being taken to hospital near his home in San Francisco,” according to the Wall Street Journal. Subscription required. (Image from http://www.ideachannel.com/Friedman.htm.)

Or, search for it here.

One of my two majors in college was in economics. (That’s how I was going to get rich! Ah, to be on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors . . . . )

Anyway, whether one agreed with Friedman or not, you can’t argue his legendary status as an influential economist.
